Reading, PA (Sept. 17, 2005) – Freshman goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) made two saves and freshman forward Ryan Rutherford (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) scored the only goal of the game as Alvernia College beat Gwynedd-Mercy, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Both teams played through a scoreless first half and Rutherford knocked home his second goal of the season assisted by freshman Tim Marcinek (Philadelphia, PA/LaSalle) in the 56th minute.  Alvernia (3-4, 2-1 PAC) held an 11-5 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

            Alvernia will continue the home schedule hosting Haverford College on Wednesday in a non-conference match-up.
