Reading, PA (Sept. 21, 2005) – Alvernia College managed just a .109 hitting percentage in a 3-1 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy College Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.

            Senior outside hitter Amy Werley (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) led the team with 10 kills in the four-game match while freshman Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) paced the defensive efforts with 15 digs.  The Crusaders (5-7, 0-2 PAC) have dropped four straight matches since starting the season 5-3.

            Alvernia jumped out to a 1-0 lead Wednesday with a 30-22 decision in the opening game, but the Griffins (4-7, 3-0) stormed back for three straight wins, 30-21, 30-21, 30-13.  The Crusaders racked up 13 kills in 38 attempts in the opener, but managed just 19 total kills in games two through four on 91 attempts.

            Alvernia will travel to Lebanon Valley on Friday for a non-conference match-up with the Dutchmen.
