Reading, PA (Sept. 28, 2005) – Senior goalie Carey Manzolilo (Bernville, PA/Governor Mifflin) made two saves, including a second half one-on-one stop, and junior Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) scored the only goal of the day to lift Alvernia College to a 1-0 win over Neumann College Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

            Titus’ tally came before most people had settled into their seats just 56 seconds into play.  The Crusaders mounted several other good scoring opportunities but could not convert.  Junior forward Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had perhaps the best chance when she fired at an empty net late in the second half only to be denied by a sprawling Andrea White (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth).

            Alvernia held a 13-5 advantage in shots and earned 11 corners to Neumann’s six.  Neumann sophomore Chelsea Ward (Willingboro, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made six saves in net for the Knights.  Alvernia will host FDU-Florham in non-conference action on Saturday.
