Wyoming, DE (Sept. 8, 2005) – Sophomore Doug McConnell (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) and freshman Derek Stewart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) each shot a 6-over 78 at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club to lead Alvernia College to a 319 team total and 11th place out of 15 teams Thursday afternoon at the Wesley College Fall Invitational.
McConnell strung together 11 pars in his first 12 holes and finished without a birdie. Stewart, playing in his first collegiate match, had a tap-in birdie on the par 5 fifth, and holed out from 80 yards for an eagle 2 on the 381 yard, par 4 11th.
McDaniel College finished first with a team-total 295 one stroke ahead of the host Wolverines. The Crusaders will be off for a week before a trip to Bent Creek Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 19 for the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational.
