BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2006) – Wesley College took advantage of an early free kick and held off a number of rushes from Alvernia College to take a 1-0 win in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Alvernia defense was whistled for a foul on a challenged ball with less than a minute gone, and Wesley (10-1-2, 4-0-1 PAC) freshman Gabriel Montecinos (Milford, DE/Milford) bent the ball inside the left post with the outside of his right foot for the only score of the game.
Alvernia (9-3-2, 5-1-1 PAC) missed a few opportunities to knot the score at 1-1 when a first half breakaway bounced wide of the left post and a crack from right in front sailed high and wide in the final minute of play. Sophomore goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) made seven saves, including a pair from point blank range in the later stages to keep the hosts within striking distance.
The Crusaders continue the conference schedule on Saturday when they play host to Immaculata University in the second game of a women’s and men’s doubleheader.
