Crusaders Set New Wins Mark With 10th Of The Season

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2006) – Senior forward Cody Gambler (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) buried an unassisted goal and sophomore Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) needed just one save as Alvernia College shutout Immaculata University 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Gambler converted the only goal of the game 12 minutes into the second half and the Crusaders (10-3-2, 6-1-1 PAC) set a new mark for wins in a season with their 10th.  Alvernia still has Swarthmore, Eastern, and Elizabethtown on the schedule before the conference tournament starts on the last day of October.

Alvernia went without a shot in the opening half while the Might Macs managed their only shot of the day before the break.  The Crusaders responded with seven shots after halftime while the defense continued to stifle the guests.  Alvernia earned four corners kicks to none for Immaculata and Might Mac keeper Stone Gahagan (Kintersville, PA/Wyoming Seminary) made four saves.

Alvernia will face Swarthmore in a night game in Swarthmore Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
