Reading, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2006) – Neumann College took two doubles points and won all six singles matches for an 8-1 win over Alvernia College in a four hour marathon women’s tennis match Saturday afternoon at Angelica Park.

            The duo of Janine Horning (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and Heather Leader (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) won at No. 2 doubles for the Crusaders (1-7, 1-4 PAC), 8-4 over the team of Kayla Chamberlain and Courtney Hartel.  Horning and Leader improved to 3-2 in doubles play with the win.  Horning was then stretched to three sets in singles play eventually losing to Shamira Cannon 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-8.  Alvernia sophomore Breana Martzall (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) also went three sets before Melinda Howell prevailed 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.

            Alvernia will continue the conference schedule with a Wednesday trip to Arcadia University.
