Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2006) – Sophomore defender Tyler Absalom (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) scored the game’s only goal on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute and Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) needed two saves to record the shutout as Alvernia College defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College 1-0 Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s soccer action at GMC.

            Alvernia held a 17-10 advantage in shots including a 7-1 edge in the first half.  GMC keeper Joe Schneider kept the Crusaders (8-2-1, 5-0 PAC) at bay making eight saves for the Griffins (2-6-1, 0-4 PAC).  Six different players recorded two shots each for Alvernia and Mike Allegra (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) led the way with four.

            Alvernia will host Moravian College Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match up.
