BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2006) – Alvernia senior Katie Einsel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) broke her own school record for consecutive shutout minutes before Albright College buried a goal in double overtime for a 1-0 win Thursday evening in non-conference women’s soccer action at Shirk Stadium.
Einsel, the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Eastern College Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, hadn’t given up a goal since early in the first half of Alvernia’s 2-1 win over Neumann College two weeks ago. She added nine saves to her season total before giving up the goal, and smashed her previous record of 394:24 consecutive shutout minutes by going 473:37 without giving a goal.
Jordan Smith scored the only goal of the night, her first of the season, assisted by Anne Curry in the 104th minute. Albright held the edge in most statistical categories Thursday night racking up 14 shots to Alvernia’s six, and the Lions took six corners, three in each half, to Alvernia’s two. Albright keeper Jess Schmura made five saves in net for the Lions.
Alvernia is done with the regular season schedule and will see if its 7-7-2 overall record will garner a selection into the ECAC South Region Tournament.
