Glenside, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2006) – The four teams that are expected to finish atop the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference are starting to bunch there following Alvernia’s 1-1 tie at Arcadia University Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (5-2-4, 4-0-2 PAC) and the Crusaders (9-2-2, 5-0-1 PAC) remain undefeated in conference play. Wesley, also undefeated with a 3-0-1 PAC record, handed Arcadia its first tie earlier this season and Eastern, the preseason favorite, lost to Arcadia in overtime back in Septmber. Alvernia will host Wesley on Wednesday and Eastern on Oct. 21, and the Eastern-Wesley match is the final game of the regular season at Eastern on Oct. 25.
On Saturday in Glenside, Alvernia senior Mike Allegra (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) put the Crusaders on the board in the 52nd minute scoring on a corner kick assist from Tim Marcinek (Philadelphia, PA/LaSalle). Arcadia answered 18 minutes later on a Geoff Buckingham goal assisted by Chris Brunetti.
Arcadia fired off four shots in each of the two overtime periods while the Crusaders got off five of their own, but both keepers made three saves in the extra time to preserve the tie. Alvernia sophomore Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) finished with 10 saves while Jeff Kratohwill stopped nine for the Knights.
