Pittsburgh, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2006) – Second-seeded Carnegie Mellon scored twice in the opening 11 minutes of the second half and added a third in the 63rd minute for a 3-0 win over #6 Alvernia College Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Men’s Soccer Championships at Carnegie Mellon.

            Alvernia sophomore Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) made five of his eight saves in the first half to keep the Tartans off the board and preserve a scoreless tie at the break.  CMU broke through just over five minutes into the second half when Jonathan Browne drove home a one-timer from Jonathan Simon.

            Andrew Park put the hosts up 2-0 five minutes later on a breakaway goal unassisted.  Jonathan Simon followed with a goal on a header in the 63rd minute assisted by Ryan Browne.  CMU will face #5 Gettysburg College in the ECAC Final on Sunday following the Bullets’ 2-0 victory over #8 Grove City on Saturday.

            CMU held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead in corners, all of which came in the first half.  Tartan keepers Matthew Bazin and Robert Vargo combined to make three saves for the shutout.
