BOX SCORE
Mt. Airy, PA (March 24, 2006) – Arcadia University scored a two-out run in the eighth inning to earn a 4-3 win over Alvernia College Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Mt. Enry Field. The Knights (8-6, 1-0 PAC) will travel to Reading on Saturday for the doubleheader end of the 3-game series.
Alvernia senior Dan Myers (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) started the eighth inning setting down the first two batters he saw in relief of starter Tim Frisch (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock), who gave up three runs in seven innings. Anthony Ragona (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) reached on a two-out double off Myers and came around to score on a John Connell (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) single. Both starters pitched well, but didn’t factor in the decision. Steve Chobert (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) picked up his second win of the season with two innings of shutout relief.
Alvernia (8-5, 0-1 PAC) scored single runs in the second, third, and seventh innings, all off starter Tyler Pennypacker (Reading, PA/Reading). Arcadia scored all three runs off Frisch in the third. Connell was aboard with two outs before a walk to Brandon Mazzie (Easton, PA/Easton) and a two-run double off the bat of John Curreri (Clinton, NJ/North Hunterdon) who later scored on an error.
Alvernia senior Ryan Zimmerman (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) scored on an RBI single off the bat of junior catcher Scott Schuler (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) in the second inning. Sophomore outfielder Tim Carroll (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan) led off the third with a triple and scored when senior Eric Bonds (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) ripped a sac fly to leftfield.
The Crusaders tied the score in the seventh when Schuler reached on a two-out single, took second on a wild pitch, and came around on a single from Ben Reifsnyder (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson).
Carroll and Schuler both collected two hits in three at-bats for the Crusaders, while the lineup No. 2 through No. 7 went hitless in 23 at-bats. Frisch gave up three runs, two earned, and walked four with no strikeouts in seven innings.
