St. Davids, PA (March 27, 2006) – Eastern University ran off eight straight goals and held a 12-2 halftime lead in a 16-7 win over Alvernia College Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Eastern.

Alvernia recorded seven goals from seven different players, while Eastern got four goals from Kate Hoy and three each from Christine Hickman and Jessica Basch.  Alvernia goalie Janell Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made 12 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Both teams scored in the opening 96 seconds of play before the Eagles rattled off eight straight goals for a 9-1 lead.  Hickman and Basch each scored once during the stretch and Hoy tallied three straight unassisted goals midway through.

Liz Gallagher (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) stopped the streak with a goal 6:26 before the half, but Eastern tacked on three more for a 12-2 lead at the break.

Alvernia was able to outscore Eastern 5-4 in the second half, but the damage was already done as the Eagles prevailed in a rematch of a 2005 first-round PAC Playoff game.
