Reading, PA (April 1, 2006) – Alvernia College posted two runs in the fifth inning of game two to tie the score at 2-2 only to see Swarthmore College respond with a pair in the sixth to secure a doubleheader sweep, 10-2 and 4-2, in non-conference softball action at Alvernia.

Swarthmore (13-8) tallied 3-run innings in the first, third, and fifth innings of game one for an early 9-2 lead and cruised to a 10-2 win in the opener.  Alvernia (9-12) plated a pair of unearned runs on a walk, two errors, and a single in the fifth inning of game two, but the Garnet Tide quickly responded with a 2-run double off the bat of junior infielder Kelly Siano (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) to reclaim the lead.

Alvernia scored two runs on four hits and three Swarthmore errors in game one and struggled defensively committing six errors.  The Tide returned the favor in the second game committing six errors, but Alvernia could not take advantage to earn the split.

Junior outfielder Suzanne Fox (Glassboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) collected two hits in seven at-bats and four other Crusaders collected one hit apiece.  Swarthmore freshmen Lauren Walker (Fallston, MD/The Hotchkiss School) and Kristin Casper (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff) led the Tide with three hits each.

Alvernia sophomore Beth Jablonowski (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) took the loss in the opener despite giving up just three earned runs.  Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity BVM) took the loss in the nightcap.
