Hershey, PA (April 19, 2006) – Freshman Derek Stewart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) shot 6-over 77 to lead Alvernia College to a 325 total and eighth place out of 15 teams at the Elizabethtown College Spring Golf Invitational Wednesday afternoon at Hershey Country Club.
Stewart birdied three straight holes to drop from eight over to five over with three holes to play and finished with a bogey on the par 3 13th, his final hole of the day to shoot 77. Senior Nayson Avery (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) shot 80, sophomore Steve Gerhart (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) carded an 83 for the second straight round, and George VanHorn (Bernville, PA/The Hill School) shot 85.
Alvernia will travel to Dover, Del., on Thursday for the Wesley College Spring Invitational.
