Reading, PA (April 20, 2006) – Sophomore McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) and junior Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) scored six and five goals respectively to lead Alvernia College to a 20-7 win over Wesley College Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Wesley opened the scoring less than three minutes into the action, but Alvernia answered 10 seconds later on a goal from Karen Hutton (Ridgewood, NJ/Eastern Christian) and the hosts rattled off eight straight to take a commanding lead with three minutes left in the opening half.  Ross scored three goals in a row midway through Alvernia’s scoring streak, and Shafer scored her first.

Wesley stopped the run with a goal at the 1:45 mark, but Alvernia countered with a goal apiece from Katie O’Brien (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) and Shafter to take a 10-2 lead at the break.

The visiting Wolverines made a brief effort to get back into the game scoring the first two goals of the second half, but Alvernia strung together six straight goals to put the game out of reach.  Ross started the second half run and Shafer capped it with a pair of goals.

Alvernia goalie Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made six saves in net to pick up her sixth win of the season.
