Big First Half Leads Alvernia Past Cedar Crest, 17-4

Ten Different Crusaders Talley At Least One Goal

Reading, PA (April 24, 2006) – Junior attack Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) scored all three of her goals in the opening 13 minutes and Alvernia rattled off 13 first-half goals en route to a 17-4 win over Cedar Crest College Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Ross and junior Karen Hutton (Ridgewood, NJ/Eastern Christian) both tallied three goals apiece to lead the Crusaders (7-4, 6-4 PAC) who have won three straight games.  Cedar Crest got a team-high two goals from Helen Luu (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby).

            Ross opened the scoring just over two minutes into play and McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) followed with goals for a 3-0 lead.  Ross scored her second at the 22:03 mark and following a Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) goal at 19:47, Ross scored her third of the day at 17:19 for a 6-0 Crusader lead.

            The hosts pushed the lead to 10-0 on Hutton’s first of three goals and held a 13-1 lead at the break.  The Crusaders toned down the offense in the second half and cruised to the 13-goal victory.

            Freshman Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made five saves in net for the Crusaders.
