Four-Goal Second Leads DeSales To 8-1 Win At Alvernia

Three Players Talley Two Goals Each For Bulldogs In First Win

Reading, PA (April 6, 2006) – DeSales University scored four goals in the second quarter to take a 5-0 lead at halftime and added three goals after the break for an 8-1 win over Alvernia College Thursday afternoon in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Alvernia’s (1-7) lone tally came on a shorthanded goal from Chris Schell (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) with 8:47 left in the third quarter.  Senior Chris Kanauss (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made 15 saves in net for the Crusaders in 56 minutes.  Freshman Ryan Richard (Frankford, DE/Sussex Tech) played the final four minutes and made one save.  DSU (1-7) got five saves each from Ben Conroy (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) and William Kehoe (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) to pick up the first win of the season.

            DSU freshman Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) scored the only goal of the first quarter and the first goal of the second to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.  He followed that with three straight assists to three different players as the guests’ lead grew to 5-0.

            DSU freshman Ricky Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) scored the first unassisted goal of the day at 10:09 of the third before the Schell goal put the hosts on the board.  The Bulldogs, who scored in each quarter, added two more in the fourth for the 8-1 final.

            Alvernia will travel to Eastern University for a conference match-up with the Eagles on Saturday.
