St. David’s, PA (April 8, 2006) – Eastern University scored the final five goals of the game to steal a 9-7 win away from Alvernia College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action at Eastern.
Alvernia senior Chris Schell (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored an unassisted goal with 9:36 left in the fourth quarter for a 7-4 lead, but Eastern tallied five straight for the win. The Eagles tied the score with 5:01 left in the game and took the lead at the 2:36 mark.
Alvernia scored the only goal of the first quarter and the final three of the second quarter after the Eagles had taken a brief 2-1 lead midway through the second. Sean Cullen (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) answered Eastern’s second goal at 4:21 to tie the score and Tom Novak (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and Tom Fraker (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) scored goals in a 41 second span for a 4-2 lead at the break.
Both team’s scored twice in the third to maintain the two-goal gap. The Crusaders’ second goal came from Novak with 20 seconds left in the quarter, and was the last goal prior to Schell’s tally just over five minutes into the final quarter.
Alvernia will host Centenary in a non-conference match-up on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
