Reading, Pa. (April 9, 2006) - The Crusaders bounced back and recovered from an 11-1 loss in the first game, to beat Neumann 2-1 in the nightcap.  Freshman pitcher Emily Williams (Minersville, Pa/Nativity) allowed only three hits in the second game, and sophomore catcher Colleen Ambrosius (Philadelphia, Pa/St. Basil Academy) delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth to earn the split for Alvernia.

In the first game, Neumann got on the board in the first inning after a lead-off single by Kristen Lawlor (Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy), and after a fielder's choice, and wild pitch, she scored on an RBI single by Caitlin Hanrahan (Springfield, Pa/Springfield).

Neumann added six more runs in an explosive second inning that saw a lead-off single, and resulting error that allowed Lauren Gallagher (Parkesburg, Pa) to come all the way around the bases.  The Knights then added five more runs on five hits, and one Alvernia error in the second, and four runs on three hits, two walks and one error in the third.

Alvernia answered with only one run in the fourth when Ambrosius scored on a passed ball, after crushing a double to the fence and advancing on a fielder's choice.

The Crusaders turned it around in the second game to come away with the split.  After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, they battled back to tie the game in the third, when junior Suzanne Fox (Glassboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) reached on an error by the third baseman, to score Hollie Dobson (Tallytown, Pa/Pennsbury) who had reached on a single up the middle.  Allyson McCready led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single, and after an error and a walk to load the bases, Ambrosius followed with the game winning hit in the fifth inning to score McCready.

Alvernia will hit the road on Tues. April 11, 2006 to visit Eastern for a rescheduled doubleheader to begin at 3:00 p.m.
