Reading, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2006) – Senior Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) scored the opening two goals of the game and junior Brandi Light (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) scored once and assisted on three others as Alvernia College ran past Immaculata University, 6-0 Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.
Light’s tally, the 15th of her career, moved her into a tie with Kerrin Brown for second place in career goals at Alvernia. Her five-point day pushed her up to 35 for her career, good for second place all-time at Alvernia, and her three assists is a school record for assists in a game, breaking the previous mark of two held by six different players.
Ross opened the scoring in the 20th minute with her first of the season assisted by Light and added a second in the 39th minute, unassisted, that put the hosts up 2-0 at the break. Senior Lisa Sothern (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal Dougherty) put the Crusaders (1-2, 1-1 PAC) up 3-0 converting Light’s second assist of the day in the 55th minute, and the Crusaders, who outshot Immaculata 33-3, exploded for three goals in a six minute span to close the scoring.
Senior forward Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) scored unassisted in the 81st minute, Light converted a pass from Karen Hutton (Ridgewood, NJ/Eastern Christian) in the 85th minute, and Kristina Bittner (Boothwyn, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) drove home Light’s third assist of the day in the 87th minute.
Alvernia keepers Katie Einsel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Danielle Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) split time in net with Fitzpatrick making two second-half saves to preserve the shutout.
The Crusaders will continue the conference schedule hosting preseason favorite Eastern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
