Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2006) – Five players recorded 10 or more digs for Alvernia College in a 3-2 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College Tuesday evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s volleyball action at the Griffin Complex. Sophomore Jennifer Stigura (Barto, PA/Central Catholic) led the way with a match-high 20.
Alvernia won games one and three, and following a 30-19 GMC victory in game four, the Crusaders took the decisive fifth game by an 18-16 count. The Crusaders (2-4, 1-1 PAC) struggled on the attack in the even games committing more errors that kills in game two and hitting just .167 in game four, but hammered out an impressive .405 hitting percentage with 19 kills on 42 attempts and just two errors in a 30-25 win in game three.
Senior Amy Sikorski (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) led the attack with 22 kills while Stigura threw in 18. Sophomore setter Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) recorded 53 assists and was one of the five players to record double digit digs with 11. Sikorski finished with 13 digs, Natalie Minnich (Tower City, PA/Williams Valley) had 12 and Ann Marie Cupo (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) recorded 10.
The Crusaders return home for three straight matches starting next Wednesday when they host conference foe Immaculata University.
