Penn State Berks Sweeps Alvernia, 9-0

Lions Take All Matches In Straight Sets

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2006) – The Penn State Berks women’s tennis team swept nine matches in straight sets earning a 9-0 win over Alvernia College Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Angelica Park.

            Samantha Burkey led the way for the Lions with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with playing partner Sarah Campbell.  The matches at No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles were played as pro sets with the Lions having already earned enough points for the victory.

            Alvernia will travel to Center Valley on Thursday for a rescheduled match with DeSales University.
