Four Crusaders Score, Novogratz Streak To 12 Games

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2006) – Senior Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) assisted on a goal by Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) for the second time in as many games and pushed her points scored streak to 12 games as Alvernia rolled past Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-0, Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

            Titus connected on her fifth goal of the season in the ninth minute to open the scoring and Lynsey Treadwell (Famingdale, NJ/Howell) scored in the 29th minute assisted by sophomore Christy Miller (Alburtis, PA/Brandywine Heights) to give the host Crusaders (6-1, 4-0 PAC) a 2-0 lead they enjoyed at the break.

            Senior forward Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) tied Novogratz for the team lead in goals with her sixth of the season in the 42nd minute and Lauren Yoder (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) closed the scoring with a penalty stroke in the 61st minute.

            Alvernia sophomore Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) played 40 minutes and made one save.  Mandy Yocum (Morgantown, PA/Twin Valley) finished the game and also made one save in the final 30 minutes.  GMC keeper Lauren Monte made eight saves for the Griffins.

            Alvernia will continue the conference schedule Saturday at Neumann College.
