Aston, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2006) – Seniors Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) and Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) each scored a goal and sophomore Mandy Yocum (Morgantown, PA/Twin Valley) needed just three saves to lead Alvernia College to a 2-0 win over Neumann College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Bruder Field.

            Alvernia outshot the Knights 16-6 and held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners.  Neumann College keeper Chelsea Ward denied 11 shots to keep the game close.

            Macchione put the Crusaders (7-1, 5-0 PAC) up 1-0 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 12th minute.  Junior Shayna Clark (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) assisted Titus on her sixth goal of the season midway through the second half.

            Alvernia held a 1-0 lead at halftime.  Macchione’s goal was the 77th of her career.  She and senior Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic), who had a 12-game point streak come to an end, are first and second on the career goals list at Alvernia.  Novogratz has 65 career tallies. 

            The Crusaders will return to action Tuesday with a non-conference game at Williams Paterson.
