Sikorski Drills A Match-High 31 Kills

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2006) – Junior outside hitter Amy Sikorski (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) hammered down a match-high 31 kills and collected eight digs to lead Alvernia College to a 3-2 win over Wesley College Tuesday evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.

            Wesley jumped out to the early 1-0 lead with a 30-27 victory in the opening game.  Alvernia came back with a vengeance taking games two and three, 30-19 and 30-20.  The host Crusaders (4-4, 3-1 PAC) managed just nine kills and committed eight hitting errors in the fourth game as the Wolverines (2-10, 0-5 PAC) knotted up the match at 2-2 with a 30-27 win in game four.

            The Wolverines had a 10-7 lead in the final game, but once the Crusaders regained the serve, freshman Ann Marie Cupo (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth) scored five straight points on serve to push the Crusaders ahead 13-10.  Wesley pulled to within 13-12, but after a sideout junior Natalie Minnich (Tower City, PA/Williams Valley) served for the match.

            Alvernia will have a five day break to prepare for PAC power Eastern University on Monday.
