Rutgers-Newark Tops Alvernia 3-1

Sikorski Rips 24 Kills On 54 Attempts

Bethlehem, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2006) – Rutgers-Newark opened up final day action in the Gold Bracket at the Moravian Greyhound Premiere Women’s Volleyball Tournament with a 3-1 win over Alvernia College Saturday morning at Breidegam Fieldhouse.

            Alvernia was paced by junior outside hitter Amy Sikorski (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) who collected a team-high 24 kills on 54 attempts.  Sophomore Jennifer Stigura (Barton, PA/Central Catholic) also reached double figures in kills with 11.  Four different Crusaders reached double digits in digs led by Stigura who recorded 15 while sophomore Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) handed out 38 assists.

            Alvernia will finish bracket play facing Swarthmore College Saturday afternoon.
