Allentown, Pa. (Jan. 6, 2007) – Fourteen different players played at least six minutes for Alvernia College and all fourteen found the scoring column Saturday afternoon in a 77-37 win over Cedar Crest in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at Cedar Crest.
Alvernia senior Lauren Fortna (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) led the Crusaders (6-4) with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Sophomore Tenay Gaddy (LaPlata, MD/McDonough) also reached double figures with 10. Senior forward Erin Knarr (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) corralled a team-high nine rebounds for the Crusaders. Cedar Crest guard Kelly Oakes (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle) led all scorers with 22 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor.
Gaddy scored six of her 10 during a 23-2 Alvernia run in the first half as the Crusaders pulled away. The host Falcons went nearly eight minutes with just one bucket and a pair of free throws to allow Alvernia to build a 41-18 lead at the break.
The second half lead grew to as many as 43 points and the Crusaders picked up their fourth conference win. Alvernia will return home to face conference foe Arcadia on Thursday as part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader starting at 6:00 p.m.
