mmaculta (4-0, 3-0 PAC) scored six straight points on the front end of a 12-2 streak that broke a 43-all tie and left the hosts with a 55-45 lead with 6:30 to play. The lead was down to five points a minute later, but pushed back to a dozen, 69-57, with 1:59 to play. Alvernia junior Derrick Hogue (Philadelphia, Pa./Calvary Christian) converted a three-point play and Terrence Shawell (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) followed with a 3 after a steal and the lead was six with at 1:28

Alvernia forced a second straight turnover on the next possession and sophomore Matt King (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Pius X), who finished with a game-high 22 points, scored on a layup to make it eight straight for the guests. The Mighty Macs continued in the giving spirit with their third straight turnover, but Hogue missed a layup that would have cut the gap to two and Immaculata hit a free throw to close the scoring.

Shawell joined King in double-figures with 14 points and Tyrone Bradley (Chester, Pa./Chester) posted his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Immaculata was led by a pair of double-doubles from Jayson Hyman (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Rob Jones (17 points, 13 rebounds). Leading scorer Kyle Finklea, who entered the game averaging better than 25 points per game, also reached double-figures with 14.

Immaculata worked the offense for 17 assists on 27 buckets while the Crusaders assisted on just four of their 26 field goals.

Alvernia is off for finals week and will return to action next Saturday, December 15, for a Coaches vs. Cancer tripleheader at the Sovereign Center.
