Junior Infielder Goes 6-for-6 With Six RBIs

BOX SCORE

Chandler, Az. (March 14, 2007) – Junior infielder and preseason All-American Zach Lutz (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin), who missed the 2006 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with an injury, exacted revenge on last year’s Mid-Atlantic World Series rep, #3 Montclair State, going 6-for-6 at the plate with six RBIs in Alvernia’s 13-3 win Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at the Greater Phoenix Invitational.

Lutz finished the day with four singles, a pair of doubles, and two runs scored in support of Alvernia career wins leader Jason Zeigler (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) who went seven innings giving up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts to pick up career win number 26.  Junior outfielder Steve Burdan (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and three RBIs.

MSU put the first run of the day on the board in the second, but Alvernia took the lead for good with two in the third.  The Crusaders followed with four more in the top of the fifth and after the Red Hawks scored two in the seventh to cut the gap to 6-3 Alvernia posted six runs in the eighth to salt the game away.

The 2006 Mid-Atlantic Regional Most Outstanding Player, Tim Stringer, took the loss for the Red Hawks giving up six runs on four hits while walking five in 4.1 innings.

Alvernia will face William Paterson Thursday afternoon in its final game of the Greater Phoenix Invitational.
