Six Different Players Collect Five Hits Each For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 26, 2007) – Senior Ryan Mark (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) picked up six hits and six other players had five hits each as Alvernia College rolled through a doubleheader sweep of College Misericordia, 29-4 and 12-7, Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Alvernia.

            Mark finished the day 6-for-10 with four runs scored and six RBIs.  Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner), Tim Carroll (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan), Dale Curry (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), and Jason Zeigler (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) were all 5-for-7 in the two game set, and Steve Burdan (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) and Zach Lutz (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) also finished with five hits each.

            Ten different players knocked in at least one run for the Crusaders led by Mark and Carroll who finished with six RBIs each.  Five players scored four or more runs led by DeBarberie who crossed the plate eight times on the day.

            Lutz earned the win in the opener throwing six innings and giving up four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven.  Carroll led the offense with four hits, four runs, and six RBIs.  Mark posted three runs on three hits and four RBIs while Lutz helped his own cause with two runs on three hits with three RBIs.  Alvernia blasted six home runs in game one led by Burdan and senior Chris Raniere (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) who homered twice each.

            Senior Ben Reifsnyder (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) threw four innings to pick up the win in game two.  He gave up six runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four.  Curry and Mark each went 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and two RBIs.  DeBarberie was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and five RBIs in game two.  Lutz, DeBarberie, Curry, and Mark each went deep for the Crusaders who finished with 10 home runs on the day.

            Alvernia will host Penn State Berks on Wednesday for a non-conference game starting at 3:00 p.m.
