Williams, Rhoads Lead Alvernia To Split With Cabrini

Williams Earns Game One Win, Rhoads Knocks In Three

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 27, 2007) – Junior Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) knocked in all three runs and sophomore Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity BVM) threw a complete game shutout to lead Alvernia College to a 3-0 win over Cabrini College in game one of a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Alvernia.  Cabrini came back with six runs in game two earning the split with a 6-0 decision.

            Williams also helped the Crusaders cause with three hits in five at-bats on two games.  Rhoads plated a pair of runs with a two-out single in the third inning of the opener and drove in her third of the game on a fielders’ choice in the fifth.  Williams struck out five Cavalier (2-14, 1-1 PAC) batters and allowed just two hits, one to the second batter of the game and another to the second-to-last.

            Cabrini scored early on Alvernia (6-6, 1-3 PAC) starter Beth Jablonowski (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) plating a pair of runs on three hits and a walk in the second inning of game two.  The Cavs added a third run in the third and erased any thought of a comeback doubling their lead with three runs in the top of the sixth.
