Dover, Del. (Mar. 27, 2007) – Wesley College scored three straight goals in just over a 30 second span with 4 ½ minutes to play to take a 15-14 win over Alvernia College Tuesday evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Wesley.
Alvernia (0-2, 0-2 PAC) took a 14-12 lead on McKenna Shafer’s (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) fourth goal of the game with 8:40 to play, but Wesley (5-3, 4-2 PAC) got three goals from three different players between the 5:03 mark and 4:31, and held on for its fourth conference victory of the season.
Tara Walls (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) scored three goals for the Crusaders and Danielle Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) scored two each. Four different players recorded one assist each for Alvernia and Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made 12 saves in net for the Crusaders.
Neither team built a lead larger than two goals for the entire first half which featured 15 totals scores with Wesley holding an 8-7 lead at the break. Alvernia ran off a streak of four straight goals midway through the second half to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 12-10 lead with 12:30 to play.
Wesley answered with two from Jade Martin before goals from Walls and Shafer put Alvernia up 14-12.
Alvernia will return home to open up the home schedule hosting Lancaster Bible on Thursday.
