Reading, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2007) – Alvernia College scored five combined goals in the first and fourth quarters to nine for Cabrini College, but the guest Cavaliers scored 12 goals in the second en route to a 26-5 win over Alvernia in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.
Alvernia junior Tom Novak (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) scored to tie the score at 1-1 with just over four minutes gone and Sean Cullen (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) scored near the end of the first quarter to pull Alvernia within four, 6-2 after a quarter of play.
Cabrini scored three times in a 40-second span early in the second quarter and after posting 12 straight goals, held an 18-2 lead at the halftime break. The Cavs continued the streak in the third quarter scoring five times for a 23-2 lead with 15 minutes to play.
Novak opened the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game and team-leading 25th of the season and sophomore Tom Fraker (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) scored to make it two straight for the Crusaders. Cabrini answered with a pair and Alvernia freshman Dan Dempsey (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic) added a goal assisted by Novak before Cabrini’s final goal of the day posted the 26-5 final.
Cabrini got goals from 17 different players led by Scott Reimer (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) who led the way with four. Alvernia goalies Mark Lenahan (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) and Ryan Richard (Frankford, DE/Sussex Tech) combined to make 11 saves and Kevin Quinn (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) and Brian Pyc (Rochester Hills, MI/Brother Rice) also combined to stop 11 for Cabrini.
Alvernia will travel to Immaculata for an important PAC game this Saturday.
