Alvernia Cruises To 7-2 Win Over Gwynedd-Mercy

Crusaders Win Sixth Straight Match

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2007) – Alvernia College took two points in doubles play and the first five singles matches to cruise to a 7-2 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s tennis action at Angelica Park.

            David Emkey (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name) and Dave Shaeffer (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) earned the first point of the day for the host Crusaders (7-1, 6-0 PAC) with a n 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.  Phil Snyder (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) teamed with Kyle Levengood (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

            Each of the top four Alvernia singles players won in straight sets and Schaeffer needed three sets for a comeback victory at No. 5.  The win is the sixth straight for Alvernia which suffered its only loss of the season in non-conference play to Western New England College back on March 21.

            Alvernia will travel to Wesley College on Saturday for a conference match with the Wolverines.
