Lebanon, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2007) – Sophomore Derek Stewart (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) shot a 7-over par 79 to finish tied for sixth individually and lead Alvernia College to a 338 team total and a tie for eighth place out of 23 teams at the Lebanon Valley College Spring Golf Invitational Monday afternoon hosted by Lebanon Country Club.
Stewart carded nine bogeys, seven pars, and a pair of birdies and was one of just eight players in the 114-man field to break 80 on a warm, windy spring afternoon. Alvernia junior Doug McConnell (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) shot 83 and Ryan Weaber (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and Jeremy Landis (Reading, PA/Central Catholic) both shot 88.
Dickinson shot 329 to finish first and Elizabethtown senior Bob Pyrz (Hazelton, PA/Souderton Area) shot 2-over 74 for medalist honors.
Alvernia will return to action Thursday at the Moravian College Spring Invitational hosted by Southmoore Golf Course.
