Reading, Pa. (Apr. 21, 2007) – Eastern University scored 16 goals in the first half to pull away for a 20-11 victory over Alvernia College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

            Eastern (10-2, 8-1PAC) opened with goals from Amy Norman (Ashburn, VA/Stonebridge) and Kate Hoy (Tully, NY/Tully) to take a 2-0 lead, but the host Crusaders (4-5, 3-5 PAC) stormed back with goals from Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) to knot the score at 2-2.

            Hoy, who finished with a game-high six goals to reach 59 for the season, scored three quick goals and the Eagles ran off a string of eight straight goals for a 10-2 lead.  Alvernia junior McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson), who tallied four goals for Alvernia, scored to stop the run and added another in the midst of six more for Eastern as the guests held a 16-4 lead at the break.

            Alvernia earned a 7-4 advantage in goals after the break, but could not overcome the first-half deficit.

            Sophomore goalie Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made seven saves in net for the Crusaders.  Alvernia will host Centenary College for a make-up game on Sunday afternoon.
