Jablonowski Homers to Secure Game One, Crusaders Drop Game Two 2-7

Junior Beth Jablonowski hit a two-run homerun in the third inning for the 4-1 victory

Saturday April 21, 2007 (Reading, PA) – The Crusader Softball team split with a PAC team for the second day in a row after they dropped the second game to Gwynedd-Mercy 2-7.  The first game was a 4-1 victory for Alvernia, highlighted by a two-run homer from junior Beth Jablonowski (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan).

Sophomore pitcher Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity BVM) held Gwynedd batters at bay, scattering only five hits over seven innings and giving up only one earned run.  Alvernia’s bats came alive in the third inning when freshman Janelle Lynch (Macungie, PA/Brandywine) singled with one out and promptly stole second base.  Williams then crushed a double to the fence to score Lynch, and Jablonowski followed with her second home run of the season to put Alvernia up 3-0.

The second game was a different story, as Gwynedd jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning and never looked back.  They added tow more in the third, and tagged on their seventh run in the sixth inning.  The Crusaders could not muster much offense after they pushed across two in the first inning on back to back doubles by Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) and Jablonowski.  After the first inning rally, they managed only three hits the rest of the game.

Jablonowski was 4-for-5 on the day with one walk.  She connected for two doubles and one homerun, with three RBIs and two runs scored.
