Reading, Pa. (Apr. 25, 2007) – Alvernia College scored 11 goals after halftime and cruised to a 19-9 win over Immaculata University on Senior Day Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field. Junior Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) led the Crusaders’ offense with four goals and two assists.
Juniors McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Katie O’Brien (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) added three goals each and sophomore goalie Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) made five saves to earn the win.
Alvernia (6-5, 5-5 PAC) scored the first four goals of the game and never trailed. Shafer and freshman Tara Walls (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) scored the first two and O’Brien made it 4-0 Alvernia will back-to-back tallies. Immaculata (4-9, 2-7 PAC) answered with three straight goals, the first two from senior Jenn Hogg (West Grove, PA/Avon Grove), but Alvernia scored four of the final six goals of the half for an 8-5 lead at the break.
Alvernia seniors Karen Hutton (Ridgewood, NJ/Eastern Christian) and Lisa Ross (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) scored the first two goals of the second half as the Crusaders built an insurmountable lead scoring seven of the first eight goals after halftime. Diggs and Shafer both added a pair during the streak.
Alvernia wrapped up the conference schedule tied with Wesley College for sixth place in the PAC, but Wesley earns the sixth and final playoff spot with a 15-14 win over Alvernia earlier this season in Dover.
