Reading, Pa. (Apr. 28, 2007) – Senior pitcher Jason Zeigler (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) threw his second straight complete-game shutout to win game one and senior Chris Raniere (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) scored a pair of runs in a 4-3 win in game two as Alvernia College swept a doubleheader from Neumann College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Alvernia.

            Zeigler gave up four hits and two walks in the opener and struck out 14 in a 15-0 win.  Alvernia put six runs on the board in the first inning and followed with three-run innings in each of the next three.  Raniere collected three hits and scored three runs in the opener and Zach Lutz (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.

            Neumann opened the scoring in game two with a single run in the second, but Alvernia responded with three in the fourth and another in the fifth.  Alvernia starter Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, PA/Williams Valley) went 5 2/3 innings and gave up just one run on three hits.  Sophomore Steve Geisel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) got the Crusaders out of a two-on, two-out jam in relief of Zelllers, and junior Andrew Long (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) gave up a pair of runs in the seventh, but earned the save stranding the tying run at third.

            Alvernia will travel to Neumann to wrap up the three-game series and the regular season on Sunday.
