Alvernia Earns Second Seed After Sweep Of Neumann

Schuler Shines In Familiar Territory

Aston, Pa. (Apr. 29, 2007) – Senior first baseman Scott Schuler (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) played two years for Neumann College, his hometown school, before transferring to Alvernia College as a junior.  In Sunday’s Pennsylvania Athletic Conference regular season finale at Neumann, Schuler looked right at home leading Alvernia to a 16-5 win with three runs scored and four RBI.

            Schuler rapped a two-run single to jumpstart a nine-run third inning and knocked in another on an RBI groundout as the Crusaders sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame.  He added an RBI-single in the sixth inning and scored Alvernia’s final run of the day after a walk in the eighth.

            Neumann opened the scoring with a run in the second inning, but the lead was short-lived and Alvernia scored 16 straight before Neumann posted four runs in the home half of the ninth.

            Shuler finished the day with two hits, a walk, and his first stolen base of the season.  Junior leadoff hitter Tim Carroll (Bensalem, PA/Conwell Egan) collected three hits and three runs scored, and junior outfielder Steve Burdan (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) finished 4.for-5 with two runs and four RBI.

            Junior Zach Lutz (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) recorded the win, his fourth of the season, pitching five innings of scoreless relief.  He was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.

            Alvernia wrapped up the regular season second in the PAC and will face No. 3 Gwynedd-Mercy in the first game of the PAC Baseball Championship at 3:00 Friday afternoon in Boyertown.
