LaPlume, Pa. (May 18, 2007) – Top-seeded Keystone College scored four runs over a four-inning span in a 4-1 win over #4 Alvernia College Friday afternoon in semifinal action of the ECAC South Region Baseball Tournament at Christy Mathewson Field.
Alvernia (27-14) scored the first run of the day in the third inning when junior centerfielder Tim Carroll (Bensalem, PA/Conwell Egan) tripled with two out and scored on an RBI bunt single by Ryan Mark (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen). Keystone tied the game with a single run in the home half of the fourth and took the lead for good on a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Keystone scored another run in the seventh inning for the 4-1 final. Mark finished the day with two hits to lead the Crusaders. Senior Jason Zeigler (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) suffered the loss going seven innings giving up four runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out five. With his fourth strikeout, Zeigler became the career leader in strikeouts at Alvernia and finished his career with 258 Ks.
Alvernia went in order in the four innings Keystone did its damage and the Crusaders put runners on in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn’t push another run across.
