Three Second Half Goals Down Alvernia

Crusaders Had The 1-0 Lead Until The 62nd Minute

BOX SCORE

Reading, PA (Sept. 13, 2008) - The Crusader Women's Soccer Team saw their 1-0 lead disappear as Franklin & Marshall (4-0) scored three unanswered goals late in the second half for the 3-1 victory at Alvernia College this afternoon.  With the loss, the Crusaders find themselves back at an even 3-3.  F&M senior midfielder Danielle David scored all three goals for the Diplomats for the hat trick.

The Crusaders jumped onto the board in the 15th minute when Patricia Lapinsky (Magnolia, DE/St. Thomas Moore) received a long pass into the box and quickly directed it to Jennifer Zeminski (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's) who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.  The Diplomats fired off nine shots in the first half and Alvernia needed four saves from keeper Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, PA/Bishop Shanahan) to preserve the 1-0 lead.

It took F&M until the 62nd minute before they would connect for the equalizer.  Senior David scored her first goal after she battled for the ball on a long pass from Amy Cawley and found an opening on the left side of the net to tie the game at one.  In the 74th minute David would put her team ahead with an unassisted goal, and she would connect on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to complete the hat trick.  The Diplomats out shot Alvernia 10-3 in the second half and held the edge in penalty corners 4-1.

Alvernia will look to get back on track with another non-conference game against Bryn Mawr on Sept. 16th at home at 4:00 pm.
