Alvernia Goes Widescreen

Webcast Go To 16:9 Starting In New Year

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2009) - Starting in the new year Alvernia University will broadcast home webstreams in 16:9, widescreen format.  Women's Basketball will host the first widescreen game Monday night when Moravian College is in town for a non-conference game starting at 7:00 p.m.

Most high definition television sets broadcast in a 16:9 format which is noticably wider than the traditional 4:3 format of standard definition televisions.  The 16:9 format will widen the viewing screen for home viewers, and with the pair of  high definition cameras that Alvernia added over the Christmas holiday viewers will notice an improved visual quality of both live webcasts and archived DVDs.

Links to the live webcasts are available on gameday on the front of Alvernia's Athletics website, athletics.alvernia.edu.

The first event webcast from Alvernia was the 2007 Women's Basketball quarterfinal between the Crusaders and Immaculata University.  Last year Alvernia webcast over 40 events including field hockey, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, ice hockey, baseball, and softball.   This year the Crusaders hope to improve on that number having already broadcast the Freedom Conference Men's Soccer quarterfinal, and with a schedule to include every home basketball game.  This spring the webcast schedule includes more baseball and softball action from the newly renovated Angelica Park Fields.
