Crusaders Sweep Second Doubleheader

DeBarberie Homers On Second Straight Day

Vero Beach, Fla. (Mar. 1, 2010) - Senior outfielder Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) hit his second home run in as many days and Alvernia University (4-0) swept a doubleheader from Johnson & Wales (R.I.) (0-3) Monday afternoon.

Sophomore starter Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) threw six scoreless innings in the opener, and DeBarberie's grand slam in the third provided more than enough offense as the Crusaders cruised to an 8-1 victory.  Junior Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) added two hits for Alvernia.

Freshman starter Matt Burger (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) went five inning in game two and picked up his first collegiate win allowing two runs and striking out six.  Junior Nole Saylor (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs as the Crusaders won 13-7.  DeBarberie collected two more hits and two RBIs.  Martin and Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) had two hits each for the Crusaders.

Alvernia will continue the Spring Break schedule facing former PAC rival Neumann College on Tuesday.
