Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) hit 8-of-9 shots from the floor--including both 3s she attempted--and all six shots from the free throw line totalling a game-high 24 points and leading Alvernia University (1-1) to an 81-63 win over Frostburg State (1-2) in the consolation game of the Jim Crawley Women's Basketball Tournament hosted by Frostburg.
Altemose hit her first shot of the day, a 3 assisted by
Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College Area) then missed from inside the arc at 16:36. She didn't miss the rest of the way.
Altemose was 4-for-5 in the first half and 4-for-4 from the line. She also grabbed eight of her 10 rebounds over the opening 20 minutes, and the Crusaders had a 43-26 lead at the break. They used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to push a 17-13 lead up to 27-13. The lead was as high as 20 points twice and the Bobcats trimmed three off that by halftime.
Alvernia had a 21-point lead early in the second half and was never threatened.
Senior
Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) reached double-figures for the second straight game and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Altemose's double-double is the first of the season for the Crusaders.
Alvernia will return home to open the home schedule Tuesday against former Pennsylvania Athletic Conference rival Cabrini College at 7:00 p.m. The game will be LIVE webcast through the Alvernia University Athletics website
