Scranton Holds Off Alvernia, 61-56

Altemose Scores 18 To Lead Crusaders

BOX SCORE San Juan, PR (Dec. 20, 2011) - Scranton University (5-4) held off a late charge from Alvernia University (4-5) for a 61-56 win in non-conference women's basketball action at the University of Sacred Heart Gymnasium.

Alvernia was led by senior center Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) who poured in 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  Classmate Allie Tozcylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview) scored 11 points with eight rebounds--five offensive.  The Royals got a team-high 13 points from reserve Christina Hiltunen who hit 6-of-9 from the floor.  The Crusaders hit 18-of-21 free throws, but only 18-of-56 shots from the floor in the loss.

Alvernia returns home from Puerto Rico and will have off for the Christmas and New Year's break.   The Crusaders return to action Saturday, January 7 when they host Stevenson University.
