GAME NOTES

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2011) - Alvernia University (6-3) returned home from a New Year's trip to Florida over the weekend and will tip off with SUNY-Potsdam (4-5) Tuesday evening in game two of the Red Robin Holiday Tournament hosted by DeSales University at Billera Hall.

Live Stats

The Crusaders have won four straight including two in Florida.  Senior Stefan Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./G.A.M.P.) hit the game-winner in a 65-64 win over Ripon College (Wisc.) last Tuesday at the Land of Magic Classic and the Crusaders easily handled Mary Washington 70-56 in their second game.  Junior Josh Vargas (Allentown, Pa./Faith Christian Academy) was named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week after averaging 17.5 points per game in the Crusaders' two wins.  It's the first weekly honor from the conference for Vargas this season.

This is the first ever meeting between Alvernia and SUNY-Potsdam.  The other game Tuesday evening features DeSales hosting Berkley College.  The two winners meet Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.  The other two teams will square off in a consolation game at 6:00.

Alvernia last played in the DeSales Holiday Tournament two years ago when Tournament-MVP Tad Gillis led the Crusaders to a pair of wins, a 74-68 win over the host Bulldogs followed by a 72-62 win over Carnegie Mellon.
