Crusaders Fall 4-1 At Stevenson

Mustangs Net Three First Half Goals

Owings Mills, Md. (Oct. 12, 2013) - Stevenson University (9-6, 3-1) netted three first half goals, including two in a three-minute span, on their way to defeating Alvernia (7-5, 0-3) by a score of 4-1 Saturday evening in Commonwealth Conference action at Stevenson.

The Mustangs opened scoring in the ninth minute with a goal off a penalty corner for the 1-0 lead.  They added insurance at 18:26 and 21:12 for the 3-0 lead at the half.  Stevenson out shot Alvernia 8-5 through the first half, but the Crusaders had seven penalty corners to Stevenson's six.

Alvernia got one back in the 36th minute as Summer Liberto (Severna Park, Md./Arch Bishop Spalding) netted her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Margaret Wentzel (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot).  The Mustangs put another one in at 60:17 to cruise to the 4-1 victory.

Each side managed just two shots in the second half, while Alvernia earned six penalty corners and Stevenson only saw two.

Rebecca Brosious (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carrol) took the loss in goal for Alvernia with three goals against and four saves in her 21:09 minutes of action.  Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) came in for the rest of the game, tallying two saves and surrendering one goal.

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday Oct. 15th when they travel to Arcadia University for a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 4:00pm.
