Crusaders Take W&L Title, 71-67 Over Meredith

Lexington, Va. (Nov. 17, 2013) - The freshman frontcourt of Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and Trayvonda Rice (Nesquehoning, Pa./Panther Valley) combined to shoot 12-of-16 from the floor and scored 29 points to help Alvernia University (2-0) to a 71-67 win over Meredith College (1-1) Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Washington & Lee Tip-Off Tournament.

Freshman guard Jenna Wolff (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) went 5-for-9 from the floor and pitched in with 14 points.

The Crusaders built a 37-30 lead at halftime and had the lead until the final minute of the game when the Avenging Angels came all the way back to tie the score at 67-all with 34 seconds left.  Alvernia junior Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) put the Crusaders back on top with a pair of free throws two seconds later then after a Meredith turnover Yoh scored two more free throws to set the final score.

Meredith had four players in double figures led by 13 from Kim Hinton.

Alvernia returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Neumann University for a non-conference game with the Knights.
